Farmer Clubs

Tanzanian farmers are farming well below production capacity. Our solution promotes knowledge in good agricultural practices, organic products, processing activities, and financial literacy to around 3000 farmers. The idea is to build mutual trust and reduce transaction costs by organizing farmers in clubs that work transparently and in a democratic way with a common objective. 

Economic Growth

Farmer Clubs doubles household income, creates intercropping possibilities, and enhances the size of crops in respect to nature’s needs. They represent the first node of our optimized value chain where the cashews are collected and delivered to the processing facilities.

AMCOS & MoU

With a solid proof-of-concept, we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the national government. Members of the Farmer Clubs become part of an Agriculture Marketing Cooperative (AMCOS) and shareholders of the HARAMBEE.

HARAMBEE Industry

85% of Africa cashews are exported as raw materials to India and Vietnam large-scale processing industries. As the kernel is only 24% of the raw cashew nut volume, excessive transport is wasting world energy and resources. Our solution aims to disrupt this inefficient and untraceable bulk-handling process by circumventing the existing value-chain and connecting Tanzanian farmers with Nordic consumers.

Co-ownership

Financed by the Tanzania Development Bank, the HARAMBEE (also referred to as Kilimo Industry), is managed by Out-Growers and co-owned by farmers. Our solution creates jobs for people recruited across local communities and reaches 15,000 people indirectly in Tanzania.

State-of-the-art

Our scalable mechanized solution uses full-cycle processing technologies and extracts bio-products from traditional cashew residues, all powered by biofuels and solar energy. Our engineering design is built as a self-contained modular system using local materials and craftsmanship giving the HARAMBEE a unique façade expression and identity.

The HUB

The Hub is our second level processing facility focused on sorting and packaging for export. We conduct quality control of semi processed nuts obtained from the HARAMBEE Industry and guarantee a safe HACCP compliant product ready for consumption. 

Responsible Business Practices

Our solution creates jobs for local people with attention to women and youth in managerial and service positions. Simultaneously, we facilitate farmers' access to credits, Farmer Clubs, and shareholding.

A STANDARDIZED POST-HARVEST TECHNOLOGY

ADAM&EVE

Cashew apples account for 90% of the total fruit weight and are the fleshy core house attached to the cashew nut as we know it. However, the apples are currently not used and lost during harvest due to spoilage. Inspired by Brazil’s post-management activities, we are developing ‘ADAM&EVE’, a small-scale solution that will use Africa’s Cashew apple.

Value Addition

About two million African farmers grow 56% of the world’s cashew. Our idea establishes value creation from 56% of the world's apples that are rotting today and creates an interesting raw material for the food industry.
